A Prototype Home in Posázaví

This family home prototype was erected in a former granite quarry in Posázaví to check the structural, typological and user-defined properties of an experiment in housing. Situated on the edge of a cliff about a lake, it preserves the surrounding mature plant life, offers enhanced views of the water and allows access to a meadow in the middle of the forest.

The house’s simple cubic mass, measuring 15 × 15 × 4 m, conceals a more complex interior, whose organic, labyrinthine shape prioritises access to light and stunning views, even in the depths of the layout.

The house was not built on a classic foundation, but seems to float over the terrain. Structurally, a steel load-distributing modular raft has been mounted on existing granite blocks, themselves remnants of local extraction activity. A 2x4 timber frame has been erected on the raft. The ceiling is nailed trusswork, while the flat roof features lush greenery. The ventilated façade is made of lumber, the windows of aluminium.

A sliding glass wall connects the living space with an outdoor terrace opening onto the meadow. The interior is executed in monochrome shades of white, serving as a neutral frame for the riot of colour the forest presents at different times of day and across the seasons. Constructed without any outside help, the object can be dismantled, allowing it to disappear without a trace at any time.
